There are a lot of builders and a lot of clients that may not know the terminology used in Green Building techniques and materials and those systems and materials used when building a highly efficient home. Please take a quick glance at this article published on the Realtor Magazine Online in July, 2007.
Here at Blue Ridge Homes we always strive to give our clients the finest and most efficient structure their money can buy. However, we feel that some folks get obsessed with the idea of green building materials, because its the hot topic. Once they discover the costs associated with most of the green building materials currently available they discover that their investment may be larger than first imagined.
The reality is that the material suppliers and the marketeer's of these products have seized on everyone's desire to seem environmentally conscious. In our opinion, the owner of a home can be just as environmentally and economically conscious by using traditional building materials to create a highly efficient structure. For instance, instead of using 2x4 exterior walls with R13 batts as insulation, you might consider 2x6 exterior walls with R15 batts and a high quality house wrap, there by slowing the thermal exchange with the outside environment. This is simply one suggestion, there are 100's of little things we could do during the build process to help a home be more energy efficient.
In our opinion a home that consumes less energy is the best "green" home of all and will provide a lifetime of return to it's owner.
